When It Rains In India 

 

When It Rains In India is the story of Dhanya, a ten-year old girl who lives in the slums of India, performs on the street and accepts this as her life until her mother, a garbage collector, gives her a book she finds in the trash. Dhanya then goes on a quest to learn to read which changes her life and the lives of everyone in the slum around her. It is a result of children I encountered in India during a tour of one of my plays. Beautifully illustrated it would be a most memorable children's picture book.
